The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Video review systems will be launched at The Championships this year.
Players will gain the ability to contest specific decisions made by the official, following the practice currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development follows just a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to review specific situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there is no cap on the number of reviews a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
A recent example occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against his opponent.
The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and determined the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at all of its events.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships this year will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
